Programme Content
The module is delivered in eight sessions:
| Session name | Content |
|---|---|
| Enabling technologies | The technologies that have enabled the rise of ’Fintech 3.0’ since the Great Financial Crisis are identified and discussed. These technologies are in three main groups: access; data generation and storage; and data analysis. |
| Key Fintech solutions | Building on the earlier session, the programme moves on to evaluate several of the most impactful fintech solutions. The focus is on understanding the real-life impacts of each one, at different levels – commercial, social and environmental. |
| Cryptocurrencies | This session begins by covering the basics of cryptocurrencies, including identifying different types of crypto assets and the key parts of the crypto environment. The focus then moves to discussing the most important crypto coins, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, including analysing the key factors that will influence their future. |
| Future of money | The advent of cryptocurrencies has led to a re-evaluation of what money is and its role in economies and society as a whole. After evaluating the history and concept of money, this session analyses stablecoins and Central Bank Digital Currencies and the likely impacts that digital money will have on organisations and economies. |
| Artificial intelligence | AI-enabled solutions will have an ever-increasing impact on organisations and individuals. This session identifies the key areas where AI is changing the way that organisations operate, the key questions that surround AI and likely developments. |
| Fintech environment | The growth of fintech solutions has affected the nature of many industries and this has led to a reaction from incumbents, governments and regulators. In this session we assess the current operating environment for businesses deploying fintech solutions. |
| Fintech and society | Fintech solutions, such as mobile money, have boosted financial inclusion while other solutions threaten to exclude certain groups. In the meantime, mined cryptocurrencies are consuming significant amounts of power and in this session we examine fintech’s role in society and the environment. |
| Future of fintech | This session looks ahead to likely developments that will impact on fintech’s future growth and the implications for organisations. |
