Sue graduated from Kingston University with a degree in Business Studies and is an FCCA qualified accountant with the ACCA. Sue has 15 years commercial corporate reporting experience having worked predominantly in the utilities sector for Shell, EDF Energy and National Grid.

She has practical experience in both single company and group reporting structures as well exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley compliance work. Sue has an MBA with distinction from the University of Warwick, her strategic management accounting dissertation explored “The usefulness of the Balanced Score Card as a measure of performance in charitable organisations”.

An award-winning educator, Sue is a CELTA qualified TEFL teacher and former IELTS examiner with experience of living and teaching in Spain and Vietnam. Having taught academic English for three years, in 2010 she progressed to lecturing in accounting at RMIT University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Sue lectured in introductory accounting, financial accounting, corporate reporting and accounting information systems. Whilst in Vietnam, Sue also earned a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia and was the runner up for the Teacher of the Year Award in 2012.

Since completing her MBA in 2014, Sue has worked in UK higher education as a senior lecturer, lecturer and associate professor. She has lectured at Henley Business School (part of the University of Reading) since 2017 and was the Programme Director for BSc Accounting & Finance programme from 2020 to 2024. Sue is also a Fellow of Advance HE and won teaching awards in 2020 for excellence in teaching innovation and in 2021 for sharing best practice in teaching and learning. In addition, Sue has extensive experience in the design, delivery and assessments of modules and programmes in the UK and internationally. She has also undertaken external examiner roles for universities in the UK and abroad.

Sue’s scholarship interests lie in accounting education and in particular the experience of international students which have developed into conference presentations.
