Chris Brewster is Professor of International Human Resource Management at Henley Business School, University of Reading, in the UK.

He had substantial experience as a practitioner, being successively a steeplejack, a trade union official, a civil servant, what would now be called an HRM specialist in the construction and air transport industries, a journalist and a management consultant, and gained his doctorate from the London School of Economics before becoming an academic. He continues to offer consultancy advice to private sector, government sector and third sector organisations.

He researches, with colleagues from around the world, in the field of international and comparative HRM. His current interests include all aspects of global mobility, particularly the management of expatriates, migrants and refugees; understanding the differences in HRM in different countries, the reasons for that, and how multinational enterprises cope with that; and arguing for a less elitist approach to human resource management.

Chris is a prolific author and has published more than thirty books, well over a hundred book chapters and well over two hundred and fifty articles. He reviews for several leading scholarly journals. He has taught and given presentations in many countries around the world. In 2002 Chris was awarded the Georges Petitpas Memorial Award by the practitioner body, the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to international human resource management and in he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Vaasa, Finland.
