Director, Chiron Risk
Garry is a risk educator, consultant and author with experienceof senior management roles, including marketing director, head of communications and client services director. He launched Chiron 20 years ago and has worked with Henley Business School for over five years.
Garry offers an innovative approach to leadership risk, bringing his experience in industry to Henley programmes on board director skills. On the open Board Directors’ Programme, he explains the three critical elements of what a board director needs to know about risk: how to identify it, how to manage it and how to communicate it. Although information on risk management is widely available, Garry’s material on risk perception and risk communication is unique to Henley.
On the postgraduate Board Practice and Directorship programme, Garry delivers seven sessions within Module 3 – each with a detailed case studyon handling risk in the boardroom. Content is delivered over two days (with an overnight assignment). By the end of the programme, delegates appreciate that risk in the boardroom is about setting an appropriate level of daring for an unknowable future. Risk appetite is about confidence and managing uncertainty.
Garry is passionate about two aspects of board risk: predicting the future (forecasting techniques to reduce uncertainty) and unseen risk (the blindness of boards and risk denial in the face of evidence).
