Reading University rises to 169 in QS World University Rankings 2024
The University of Reading ranked among the world's top 200 universities.
The University of Reading has been ranked at 169 equal in the QS World University Rankings 2024, placing it among the world’s top 200 universities.
Growing reputation among businesses and employers, and an increase in average research citations are among the trends that have propelled the University of Reading up the global league table.
The big increase means Reading has moved 60 places higher in the rankings and puts the University as the 26th highest-ranked UK university.
Professor Elena Beleska-Spasova, Dean of Henley Business School, said:
“The QS rankings are globally significant, so a top 200 ranking among 1,500 universities is a fantastic achievement. Henley, part of the University of Reading, is a triple accredited school with international campuses, strong relations with industry and a wide breadth of programmes on offer to provide our students with a world class learning experience. I’m pleased to see this recognised and result in our ranking as one of the top universities in the world.”
Employer reputation and employability
Reflecting the University’s commitment to providing the best employment outcomes for students, Reading performed well in the Employability and Outcomes measure. It secured a world top 250 ranking for employment outcomes – a measure based on the ability of institutions to ensure a high level of employment for their graduates.
Focus on sustainability
The new rankings method places new emphasis on sustainability, ranking Reading at 189 in the world, in line with the University’s institution-wide commitment to support environmental sustainability and to be a force for positive social change.
Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, said: “Since our foundation nearly a century ago we have been a truly global university. I’m pleased that in this new assessment we are recognised as among the best universities in the world for our research and that our reputation among businesses and academics is growing.
“With influence comes responsibility, and I am pleased to see this new league table reflecting our mission to bring about real change on social and environmental issues.
“Universities have a lot to offer the world and can bring great benefits to local communities. We are committed in our responsibilities to build partnerships and develop new ideas.”
With campuses on three continents, and students and academic staff from more than 140 countries, the University of Reading continues to build on its position as one of the UK’s leading universities.
The Top 200 position in the world in the 2024 rankings follows improvements in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, announced in March, in which Reading saw positive moves across Henley’s subject areas including Business & Management.
The QS World University Rankings 2024 scored the performance of 1,500 universities globally, the highest number ever.
