Henley apprentice shortlisted for CMI award

A Henley Senior Leadership Apprentice has been shortlisted for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award.

John Dodd, Director of Maritime Safety Services at Inmarsat, a global satellite communications provider, enrolled on the Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship programme to enhance his managerial capabilities.

Since then, he has seen his ambition soar, changed the way he works with his team, and initiated changes at Inmarsat which have raised the bar for shipping operators and rescue centres around the world.

Now John’s achievements have been recognised by the CMI, who celebrate apprentices from a variety of backgrounds who have successfully applied their learning to their workplace to advance not only themselves, but their organisation and the community around them.

John said:

“Being shortlisted for the CMI Partner Award-Apprentice of the Year, is a great honour. My learning at Henley and CMI support has been instrumental in the technical developments in Maritime Safety and Search and Rescue services through space communications.

“It is easy to get lost in managerial and business practices whilst also concentrating on multiple projects and studying, being nominated for such a prestigious award has offered the opportunity to take a step back and appreciated what has been taught over the past 18 months and how this has been implemented into real life scenarios.”

The winner of the Outstanding Apprentice of the Year will be announced in November.
