University of Reading Workshop in Urban Economics and Economic Geography
5 – 6 June 2025
Having received positive feedback regarding our first workshop in Urban Economics and Economic Geography in June 2024, we have decided to organise the next one in June 2025, now with a proper call for papers and ambition to welcome some 50 to 60 attendees. The aim of our workshop is to bring together high-quality and original research in urban economics and economic geography.
Call for papers deadline: Midnight February 2nd, 2025, UK time
If you would like to attend the workshop without presenting a paper, please use the link at the end of this page.

Workshop Information
The workshop will run for 2 days, Thursday 5 June and Friday 6 June 2025, with the first day starting at 10:30 am, and ending at 3:50 on the second day. Each presented paper is allocated 45 minutes, 30 for presentation and 15 minutes for discussion. We plan to run 4 parallel sessions. The workshop will be in person only, without streaming or recording.
We also would like to clearly communicate some rather unusual arrangements. We believe our institution is not the only one going through rather difficult times, so we hope you will understand that we have to organise the event with very limited budget. We are not charging any attendance fee, and for that reason the services we can provide are extremely limited to coffee and tea, served during the breaks. Attendees will therefore have to cover their costs for snacks, lunches, dinner and also drinks during the networking evening meeting. There is a small café at the venue and we will provide a list in advance of places elsewhere on campus and close to the campus, which serve snacks, sandwiches and proper meals.
We do believe there is still demand among researchers based in the UK for more opportunities to present and discuss their work and network. Whilst we do not aim to restrict attendance to UK based researchers, if having to make a choice, we would tentatively prioritise attendants from the UK and closer countries, as those are more likely to benefit from networking and prospective future collaboration due to physical proximity.
Paper submission point:
Please submit your paper or extended abstract via the link below. If we have to make a choice, we prefer completed papers over extended abstracts. If you would like to attend without presenting a paper, please use the same link and follow instructions in the form.
