Rebecca, tell us how you became involved with the Henley Centre for Coaching, and why you’ve recently renewed your membership

‘After I’d qualified as a coach, I saw a comment on an online forum for coaches about the Henley Centre. It sparked my interest sufficiently that I did some research into what the Centre offers; it ticked a lot of boxes in terms of developing my skills and knowledge and it seemed like extremely good value.’

So tell us about the aspects of the Centre that appeal to you most

‘I’ve been so impressed by the webinars, both in terms of the quality of the presentation speakers and the breadth of subject areas they cover, especially those on neuroscience, working with moods and emotions, and the impact of coaching on the brain.

‘I’ve also been using the monthly ‘huddles’ which is a forum for relatively new coaches to discuss issues and broaden personal networks. And the annual coach ‘bootcamp’ gives coaches some great tips on the commercial side of running a coaching business.

‘Working with the contacts I’ve made has enabled me to add to my practical coaching experience and that was important in terms of getting my ICF (International Coaching Federation) gold standard credential, but more importantly developing further skills and experience.

‘I’ve really benefitted from these peer-to-peer sessions; you see such different approaches and that expands one's own toolbox. I tend to take a more psychological perspective, whereas others have a more academic-evidence approach. Seeing how other coaches operate has consolidated, expanded and complemented my own learning.

‘There is also a schedule of masterclasses and online interviews on various topics, and a whole range of other online resources including really helpful Insight Guides, plus the annual Coaching Conference.’

What impact has membership of the Henley Centre for Coaching had on you, personally and professionally?

‘It’s given me the chance to really build on my qualification and learnings, becoming a better, well rounded coach, and I’m currently in discussion with another member about working together on a project.

‘The insights from the webinars and masterclasses are valuable; being armed with that knowledge and those insights gives you a wider array of ways that you can deliver a great coaching experience.

So what advice would you give to anyone thinking of joining the Centre?

‘Join! Henley adds a level of professionalism to your coaching and it offers the perfect balance between the academic and the practical business side of coaching. Jonathan (Passmore) has a phenomenal knowledge and recall and this pervades throughout the Centre.

‘If you want to develop further as a coach the resources and contacts they offer make joining worthwhile.’
